From the Pastor’s Desk
Della Little once shared with us a little piece of paper that contained some very wise and beautiful words.
IT’S NOT EASY
To Apologize
To Begin Over
To Admit Error
To Keep Trying
To Take Advice
To Be Unselfish
To Be Charitable
To Face A Sneer
To Avoid Mistakes
To Be Considerate
To Endure Success
To Profit By Mistakes
To Keep Out Of A Rut
To Forgive and Forget
To Think and Then Act
To Make The Best Of Little
To Subdue An Unruly Temper
To Recognize The Silver Lining
To Shoulder A Deserved Blame
These are good words to keep near for easy reference. Someone once said, “Words, words, words! There’s no end to them.” Words constantly inundate us, and we must be careful and selective in choosing the words we will keep in our hearts. Proverbs 22:17 says, “Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise.” The opposite is equally true, “Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips” (Proverbs 14:7).
Among the wisest words we can ever read are those from 2nd Peter chapter 1 “Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love” (2nd Peter 1:5-7). A daily reading of God’s word will bless us beyond measure. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).
