Children’s Choirs

It is our great joy, and goal at Aldersgate to teach our children about God’s glorious gift…Music.  Martin Luther once said “Music is a fair and glorious gift of God.  I am strongly persuaded that after theology there is no art that can be placed on the same level as music.”

Former President Ronald Reagan wrote:  “We must teach (children) the rich artistic inheritance of our culture and an appreciation of how rich music enriches both the student who studies it and the society that produces it.  The existence of strong music and fine arts curricula is important to keeping the humanities truly humanizing and liberal arts education truly liberating.”  Music in the words of Henry Wordsworth Longfellow, “is the universal language of mankind.”

As parent’s we all want the best for our children.  We want to give our children every chance to succeed in life.  We desire to offer them the best opportunities to be nurtured and encouraged in the development of their unique talents and abilities as they grow up.

Crayola Crayons recently had a commercial on television saying that tests have proven that children that participate in the creative arts are happier children.  Studies have also shown that singing strengthens the heart and tones up the muscles of respiration.  Musicians have better attendance in school, have a heightened ability to organize thoughts and improvise, are better disciplined, better writers and communicators, and overall are better students.

Students of the arts continue to outperform their non-arts peers on the SAT, according to reports by the College Entrance Examination Board.  In 1996, SAT takers with course work or experience in music scored 60 points higher on the verbal portion and 42 points higher on the math portion than did students with no course work or experience in the arts.  These studies also indicate that the earlier our children are exposed to the creative arts the more dramatic the results.

At Aldersgate we recognize that our children are a treasured gift from God.  So if you want to have a smarter, healthier and happier child we invite you to have them join one of our Aldersgate Children’s Choirs.
