28th Annual UMM BBQ October 12th and 13th
To just sign up for our e-mail list:
Our 28th annual UMM BBQ will be Friday, October 12h and Saturday, October 13th The BBQ supports the missions work of not only the Aldersgate congregation, but of a variety of local, national, and international missions. Organizations and groups that have received funds from the UMM include:
· United Methodist Committee on Relief
· Society of Saint Andrew (Hunger relief)
· Montgomery Area Food Bank
· Salvation Army
· Montgomery County DHR Christmas Project
· Home repair for elderly
- Boy Scout Troop 307 and Cub Scout Pack 307
- Red Bird Mission (Aldersgate work teams)
- Stipends for Aldersgate seminary students
- Aldersgate Youth mission trips
- Aldersgate Missions Work Area budget
The last 4 years we have sold on average 1000 plates, netting $5000 to $6000 each year. Our goal is to do the same again this year. While there is a lot of work involved, it is also a great time of fellowship with other men doing something we all enjoy – cooking meat over fire!
Ticket Sales
The financial success depends on good ticket sales before the BBQ weekend. We need lots of help selling tickets to family, friends, and co-workers. If you run a business (or know someone that does) that would like to treat its workers to lunch on Saturday, we’ll even deliver large orders. Jim Snyder will have tickets for distribution soon after Labor Day. You can find him serving as a Greeter for the early service on Sunday mornings in the CAC, or call him at 272-3548, or e-mail at jos@charter.net.
BBQ Weekend Volunteers
We will begin around 8 am on Friday morning by starting the fire and putting the hams on at about noon. Cooking will continue around the clock until Saturday morning. We need plenty of volunteers to work all shifts.
We always have a special need for some men that can do some heavy lifting Friday morning as we get started. If you can take Friday morning off from work, or at least give us a couple of hours, let Robert Thompson know so he can fill the first work shift. Other work areas and contact information are listed below. Please contact any of the team leaders or Robert Thompson to volunteer.
